Detailed Information

Flower: tube shape round cluster
[photo of flower] Flowers are in a round cluster, about ¾ inches across, surrounding a purple cone. Individual flowers are less than ¼ inch across, tubular with 4 irregular lobes. Color ranges from white to pink to lavender; the center of each flower is usually darker than the outer petals. The flower head sits at the end of a long stem that arises from the leaf axils. One plant may have several flower heads.
Leaves and stem: opposite attachment simple type
Leaves are up to 1½ inches long and ½ inch wide, are oval or egg-shaped with pointed tips, hairless, have serrated edges and short stems. Attachment is opposite. The stem is square and hairless.
Notes:
A square stem and opposite leaves usually indicates a member of the Mint family, but that isn't the case here.

Please: Do not ask about where to buy seed or other gardening questions, are plants edible, etc. I am not a horticulturist or botanist, just an enthusiastic hobbyist so I probably don't know the answer. Please check the links page for additional resources. -thanks much
