Detailed Information

Flower: regular shape
[photo of flower] Large flower, 3 to 4 inches across, made up of what appears to be 6 petals, but the 3 outer ones are actually similar-looking sepals and slightly narrower than the inner petals. All are orange with red streaks and turn to yellow at the throat. The petal edges are usually curled. 6 long stamen emerge from the center. Each flower lasts only 1 day, hence the name.
Leaves: basal attachment simple type
[photo of leaves] A cluster of long, blade-like leaves surround the base of the plant.

Please: Do not ask about where to buy seed or other gardening questions, are plants edible, etc. I am not a horticulturist or botanist, just an enthusiastic hobbyist so I probably don't know the answer. Please check the links page for additional resources. -thanks much
