Field report: May 11, 2008
At Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park, it looks like the trout lilies won’t be blooming much longer. I didn’t see any Dutchman’s breeches blooming today so they may be done for the season, but I can’t be sure. In the woods there, Canadian violet and wood anemone are starting to bloom.
At the Long Lake Regional Park prairie, prairie smoke and pussytoes are now blooming. Prairie alumroot, Carolina larkspur and prairie rose are just sprouting. In the woods, small white violet, wood anemone and woodland strawberry are just starting to bloom. Lots of Canada mayflower is coming up and I even saw a couple with buds on them today. They should start flowering next week.
Small white violet, wood anemone and woodland strawberry are also blooming at Sucker Lake, as is sessile-leaved bellwort. The trillium still wasn’t in bloom yet as of a couple days ago. Maybe this week… On the downside, I saw my first leafy spurge of the season there.
