Field report: April 22, 2008
Yesterday I spent the afternoon at Long Lake Regional Park. A lot of green things are sprouting and I expect to see the first violets blooming in another week, maybe sooner.
Other spring wildflowers that have started coming up are sweet cicely, red columbine, and the anemones. The gooseberries are budding, as are dogwoods.
Today’s trek was to Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park. On the island next to the dam I found a big patch of what looks like trout lilies–the mottled leaves are pretty distinctive–but I don’t know if they’ll be the yellow or white variety. Probably white, but I’ll find out soon enough.
Also sprouting in the woods there is garlic mustard. Looks like it might be a bumper crop this year.
