I really should bone up on my grasses. They really can be quite interesting.

Grasses are presenting more photo opportunities than flowers at the moment. This one isn’t really called “wooly grass” of course. I don’t know what variety it is, but it got my attention.

When I first noticed it, I thought it looked like a field of woolly caterpillars. There was another grass with a similar head, but a lovely golden color.

You don’t normally see this blooming in mid-September, but then the unusual weather we had this year has made a lot of plants bloom at abnormal times.

It’s not a flower, but it is eye-catching. I understand it is also edible, though I think I’ll pass.

Sometimes the camera picks things up I can’t normally see, at least not with my less than perfect eyes. I never realized that Boneset has 5-petaled flowers, which you can see pretty clearly here.

The fruit is just starting to form here. It will eventually look something like a miniature watermelon covered with spines.
