Evening Primrose

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

photo of flower Bright yellow flowers like Evening Primrose can be hard to photograph. They often end up an over-saturated blob unless you get just the right angle and amount of light, or can focus the camera on something besides just the flower. Watch that first step. :-)

False Nettle

Friday, August 24th, 2007

photo of flower After a week of rain, the weather was finally suitable for taking photos again. I expected things to start coming back to life now that we’ve had a little relief from the drought, but I never expected to find something living in the False Nettle. Creepy.

photo of flower The way Groundnut entwines itself around other plants, it can be difficult to get an unobstructed view of the flowers. This one came out nicely.

Blazing Star

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

photo of flower This is the first I’ve seen Blazing-star at Long Lake Park. I’m not sure what variety this is. It seems to match the description of Marsh Blazing-star, but that variety is not known to grow in Minnesota. Who knows…

Red Whisker Clammyweed

photo of flower I’ve photographed this flower before, but didn’t learn what it was until today. The common name suits it well.

photo of flower First blooms of the season. I never really noticed the bracts before. It’s neat how the flowers unfold. Overall, very cool.
